I play the flute and find this piece of music my all-time favorite. I first heard it when I was a police officer in the early seventies. I worked third watch and was parked in a closed gas station at about 4:00 am doing paperwork. Everything was shuttered and dark, and no one was on the street when I first heard it on an all-night station from Detroit. I was entirely transfixed by it. I had no idea who played it, just that it was the single most beautiful piece of music I had ever heard, which I still consider it today.

I had the pleasure of seeing him live 30 years ago. First half of the concert was classical, the second half jazz. The man's tone is impeccable! The duet he does with Herbie Mann on the tune In and Out on Mann's Glory of Love album is a joy to behold.

Amazing Grace -this Hubert Laws rendition - is what I want played whenever God calls me home and I will be with my Myles whom God showed mercy on February 17, 2020. Meanwhile I have loved this Amazing Grace since I heard it years ago - has always soothed my mind and soul. Thank you God and Mr. Laws ! ???
